Fire-safe storage of gas cylinders
We regularly receive questions about the proper and fire-safe storage of gas cylinders. Chapter 6 of PGS 15 sets out the rules for the storage of gas cylinders. According to Table 6.1 of the PGS 15, there are two possibilities: fire-resistant (30 or 60 minutes) or non-fire-resistant. Fire resistance is then achieved by placing the storage 10 meters away from buildings belonging to the establishment, the establishment boundary and combustible objects. The basic assumption is that a fire cannot then reach the storage facility. Nevertheless, in practice one sees many solutions with mesh doors at a distance of less than 10 meters. A solution that is obviously perfectly defensible, provided you can prove that no direct heat radiation from the gas cylinders can take place. At a client in 's-Hertogenbosch, it was indeed possible to demonstrate that there is no risk of heat radiation from the gas cylinders, so the Hiltra Megasaver GD-MS gas cylinder storage units are an excellent solution for the safe storage of gas cylinders.
